Don't be scared of something you can't see or feel

Hello,
I am writing this because at 27 I came to the realization that I could see better than I was seeing.  There is a lot of apprehension surrounding getting an eye exam and being told (you need glasses).  That is the stupidest line ever.  Instead they should say glasses could help you see better.  They are not a punishment at all.  There is then this scary notion circulated that contact lenses are annoying and hard to use.  Not true.  So back to me,  I was afraid on several fronts.  There is the whole stigma of having a frame on your face.  The thought of wearing contacts seems inherently uncomfortable.  Possibly most depressing of all is being tethered to lenses to see.  I go in for an eye exam and am told i'm 20/30.  This is far form horrible.  My prescription is L -.5-.5 R-.5-.25.  This causes a lot of glasses shop people to wonder as to why I want contacts or glasses.  The reason for contacts is a simple one.  They are $2.5 a week for the equivalent of hdtv for my eyes.  Sure I can see without them,  but I see ridiculously well with them and no one can see them and I can't feel them.  Glasses you'll formulate your own opinion on.  Since of my slight astigmatism I like them for at night.  They are a pain   in the sense you have to move your head to compensate for your lack of peripheral vision.  I like them.  They are really cheap online from places like Zenni Optical.  It can be fun to be a glasses person sometimes but I would want to have a choice in the matter.  If you wake up wanting to see better you have nothing to loose.  If you get glasses and contacts and you hate them find a nice drawer to stick them in.  If you like them great now you can see your best.
